Holistic Yoga May Bank Holiday Retreat
Tilton House 24th - 27th May 2019
Soothing Stress & Strain - A Gentle Yoga Retreat
Individualised yoga, movement and sound to restore and realign your body and mind
Stress and Pain Epidemic
If you have an achy neck, shoulders or back; or if you feel overwhelmed and under pressure, you know you need to relax. This gentle yoga retreat provides just that opportunity to take time out and explore yoga's scientifically proven restorative practices. According to research by Imperial College London in 2016, over half of the UK population suffers from chronic pain of some kind. The latest NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) guidelines say that gentle, appropriate movement and relaxation techniques offer the best solution for aches, pains and stress.
Gentle Movement Solutions
Many yoga and movement classes these days are geared more towards fitness, strength and flexibility rather than freedom in the body and peace of mind. We've westernised yoga to the point that classes can be competitive and many students find themselve striving to touch their toes or put their foot behind their ear! Gentle Yoga and Somatics is different. We focus on the comfort, smoothness and quality of movement, rather than creating a specific shape or posture. Everyone can refine their practice in a way that works for their own unique body and mind. The healing power of yoga comes from making the unconcious, conscious, through curiosity, exploration and focussed attention in both body and mind.

Laid Back and Lovely - Tilton House

Tilton House is a period home once owned by the famous economist, John Maynard Keynes and his Russian wife, ballerina Lydio Lopokova. The area is steeped in Bloomsbury set history, there is a lovely laid back quirkiness to the house and gardens. With so many secluded places to relax in between sessions you may want to simply rest and just be in the gardens or the well stocked library. To further relax and release achy muscles, there is a visiting masseur and an outdoor sauna. However should you choose, there are lovely walks in the South Downs and the nearby Charleton House (home to Vanessa Bell and other writers, artists and thinkers) is a great place to visit.

The food at Tilton House is vegetarian, mostly plant based and extremely delicious, light yet nutritious and filling.

Your retreat includes all meals, tea, coffee, some lovely treats and delicious desserts. Food intolerances are well catered for.

Healing Power of Sound

My partner Alistair is a musician and sound healer. We love working together to incorporate the healing sounds of Tibetain singing bowls, classical guitar, gongs and other instruments into some of the classes and meditations.

Natural sound has a way of focussing the mind in a way that creates a natural shift in focus away from the thinking mind to a deeper level of conscious awareness. We've found it to be helpful in deepening meditative states, allowing the mind to rest and refresh. You'll be treated to a sound bath and restorative yoga nidra as well as yoga for insomnia in the evening sessions.

About Your Yoga Teacher

She's been studying therapeutic yoga and other somatic disciplines for many years, both for self healing and to help her students. Recently, she featured on ITV Tonight's programme on Back Pain, Britain's Unseen Crisis. Julia has felt the benefit of conscious movement in helping her heal from constant low level hip, back, knee and back pain as well as allergies, asthma and energy highs and lows.
