Yoga and somatic practice has been an enormous support throughout the pandemic, enabling us to reduce the negative effects of stress, anxiety and having a more sedentary lifestyle. Now we are in the endemic stage and collectively facing the task of putting things back together again. Yoga helps us to nurture the precious qualities of empathy, compassion, patience and understanding for ourselves and other people in our lives. 
Within the refreshing, soothing natural surroundings of the beautiful Tilton House, in the South Downs, we’ll focus on nourishing our nervous systems, building trust and connecting to nature as a teacher, and building our tolerance for stress and adversity

Gentle Yoga – Relax to Restore

As we emerge from the stress and difficulties of 2020 and 2021 into a new world we need to develop a toolkit of skills to support our health and wellbeing. We’ll focus on yoga and breath practices that restore the nervous system, reduce anxiety and build inner strength, confidence and resilience. We will work in such a way that we can safely enjoy being in the company of others once more. 

We’ll practice outside on the lawn when the weather allows, however, we’ll also be practising in the yurt, with up to 12 people. After the vaccination program and the further protective effects of Omicron, it is time to get used to being in a group once more. So we can all relax into this experience, we’re asking for all participants to take a covid test prior to coming to the retreat.

Gentle Yoga Retreat – Single, Double and twin Rooms Available

Our intention is to provide a safe, restful and welcoming space for you to heal, restore and unwind. This retreat is ideal for both beginners and experienced yoga students alike. This gentle yoga retreat is ideal for enjoying with a friend or relative who night be entirely new to yoga, so feel free to bring along a loved one, it’s a great way to introduce them to yoga. There are both twin and double room, and around 3 single rooms (two in the shepherd huts) available.

Retreat in Laid Back Style

Tilton House is a beautiful period home, once owned by John Maynard Keynes, a world-renowned economist and member of the Bloomsbury Set. This group of artists and thinkers included Virginia Woolf and E.M. Foster. They resided in London, but often “retreated” to this area of Sussex to write, make art and enjoy the more relaxed pace of life.

The home has an inspiring, yet laid-back feeling with a sense of space and privacy. You’ll discover the wonderful library and various other lovely spaces in which to rest and relax in between sessions.

In between classes there is time to “just be” – an important part of any yoga retreat. There are numerous cosy spots in house or garden, in which to read, rest or enjoy a cup of tea. If you are feeling more energetic, there are lovely walks in the area.

The chef at Tilton House is well known for creating delicious raw desserts, and healthy plant based meals. The cooking is vegetarian (mostly vegan), low GI and high protein. Previous students have found the food filling and delicious, even though many are not vegetarian. Spring water, tea, coffee and fresh fruit are available through the day. Do bring your own refillable water bottle.

Prices Include:

  • Accommodation;
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner;
  • Tea, coffee and herbal tea;
  • All group yoga tuition (4 classes a day, including morning meditation; yoga nidra on Friday evening and a sound bath on Saturday evening).

All classes are included, but optional.

    • Travel to and from Tilton House
    • Cab journey from the station to Tilton House*
    • Travel Insurance

Optional extra massage and sound therapy treatments

We can arrange cab shares for students travelling by train to TIlton House.

NB: Deposits are non-refundable but transferable. If Holistic Yoga or Tilton House has to cancel the retreat your payments will be returned in full.

Julia and Alistair were amazing, patient and very good at explaining, correcting etc. It was great to learn new poses and being shown alternatives due to overdoing certain postures. There was a really good balance between yoga / meditation and free time.

I’d recommend to people would appreciate the “holistic” aspect and looking for something that is therapeutic and restorative rather than “hard core” yoga.

I loved being in such a beautiful location and having time to snooze in a hammock in the sun. It really relaxing, a lovely group of people, very peaceful, great yoga.

Perfect if you feel overwhelmed with life and really need to relax and reset in Nature with a wonderful caring and nurturing yoga instructor who really understands the body

The yoga session and variety of sessions was really nice, it felt relaxing and inclusive. The food was great and then hosts and teachers were very welcoming

… the facilitators /instructors are the nicest pair ever, and their kindness was so striking and so lovely and healing.

The sound bath was a new experience for me, so interesting, quite powerful.

Just wanted to say... I feel AMAZING! Thanks for a fantastic weekend - exceeded my expectations. I really enjoyed your classes, and although I wanted to push myself for a stronger practise - vinyasa, inversions, etc (I was desperate to throw a wheel in at the end of that set of bridges we worked through), I actually found that coming home I feel stronger and more grounded. I went for a short run (in my Vivobarefoots) this morning and it felt fabulous. You have absolutely inspired me to look into the somatics that you work with for my own classes.

To book your place on the Gentle Yoga 4-Day Retreat, please email ju***@ho**********.uk. She will send you the bank details and provide you with an invoice. Paying half the price of the retreat will save your place and is non refundable but is transferable to another person. The remainder of the price is payable six weeks before the retreat starts. 
Julia will be in contact by email, two weeks before the retreat to ask about your dietary requirements, whether you’d like your room made up as a double or a twin, additional treatment bookings and arrangements for taxi share from the Lewes station, if required. There is a medical form which you can fill in beforehand or on the day of arrival.
