Holistic Yoga Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

As a yoga teacher I follow an ethical code which includes the precept of “asteya.” Asteya means refraining from stealing from other people. Your personal details and information are currently being “data mined” or “harvested” by large companies (in particular Google and Facebook but now others including subsidiaries of Alphabet like Hive). This is done at scale and without your consent (even if you delete cookies and click privacy settings). We are fortunate in that the EU has set good standards for privacy, it is not he case in many other parts of the world. However these companies feel they are above these guidelines.

On the other hand, I completely respect your right to privacy, your right to keep your personal information to yourself. I will only use information about you in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, General Data Protection Regulations 2018 and other relevant legislation and regulations.

Personal Data
With your permission, I collect and maintain a list of student names and email addresses through Getresponse (which I use instead of Mailchimp as they are censoring natural health information, as does Google).

Uncensored Search Engines
To get uncensored search results use the Ecosia or Duck Duck and Go search engines. Test them out by typing in “reactions to vaccine gut flora” you will get wildly different results. Whatever you think about vaccines, the fact that Google is censoring is very concerning. What else will they censor? Who knows? Google is totally unregulated and has deep connections to the US defense department and powerful multinational corporations. Decide for yourself whether you can trust Google. I invite you to do your own experiments, comparing the search engines.

Mailing List Data
Within Getresponse, I choose to only keep your name and email address so I can contact you and keep you up to date about Holistic Yoga classes.

Booking App Data
You may to choose to pay for classes through my booking app, Acuity. This app stores your mobile number as well so I can send you text reminder for classes. I will only use your number in connection with yoga lessons, and I will never pass it on to another company.

Card Payment Data
Acuity uses the Stripe payment system to process any payments made through this site. Stripe is widely used and ensures your card data is encrypted and secure.

Marketing Communications
By signing up to receive my newsletter you are consenting to receive marketing communications from me about yoga, health, classes, retreats, upcoming events and special offers. You can easily unsubscribe from these emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the end of the email. I do not want to be an inbox irritant!

To my knowledge, my website does not use cookies except for google analytics cookies. Sadly, these are likely to pose a problem for us all. However, 95% of internet sites including all the major sites you visit every day will have these cookies in place.

I promise that I will only use your data for legitimate business purposes and will never give or sell your details to anyone unless in the unlikely event that I am legally required to do so. You have a right to see any personal information which I hold about you on written request. I am not responsible for the data policies or procedures or the content of websites that I link to e.g. Google and Facebook.

For more information on online data privacy, I recommend reading Surveillance Capitalism by Soshana Zuboff. It’s an eye opener!
